Types of Clubs

Open Membership
  • General Interest Clubs are based on a hobby, culture, religion or other categories that a group may have a shared interest in. You don’t need to be a member of a specific program to join, but members might benefit from being in a related program.
  • Academic Interest Clubs focus on activities related to an academic program or area.
  • Chapter Organizations are the student chapters of a not-for-profit parent organization.
Limited Membership
  • Student Councils are clubs with membership based on academic programs. These may be Combined Year (composed of first, second, third, and fourth year students) or Fixed Year (limited to a graduating year)
There are a few things you need to know before you start on your club journey:

  1. Clubs are for ALL NAIT students. They cannot limit membership based on age, race, religion, ability, social status, gender, or sexual orientation.
  2. Multiple clubs with the same purpose aren’t allowed – so get creative! Visit Ooks Life to see the entire list of active clubs.
  3. Clubs cannot be created to use resources to complete class projects or initiatives.
  4. Students can have membership in multiple clubs. However, a student may only hold a maximum of two executive positions.
Starting A Club

Every club starts with an executive team! You’ll need at least 3 current students (including yourself) to get started: President, Vice-President Operations, and Vice-President Finance. Here are the steps you need to take:

  1. Sign in to ookslife.ca using your MyNAIT portal credentials.
  2. Click “Organizations”, then “Register an Organization”. Ensure that your club executives have completed their Ooks Life profiles. ;
  3. Select one of the following:
    • If you’re a brand-new club, select “Register a New Organization” at the bottom of the page, and then “NAITSA Campus Clubs”.
    • Use “Re-Register Existing” option at the top of the page, if you are registering a returning club.
  4. For new clubs, complete the required fields in the registration form. You’ll need a club name, a description, and bylaws to guide your club.
